Moving the Needle 2016
Event Details
9:00 am EST
Important Dates
The 2nd annual Moving the Needle event convened USAID staff and implementing partners around practical examples of collaborating, learning and adapting (CLA) in USAID programs and operations.
Wondering what CLA looks like in practice or how to integrate it into your work?
Moving the Needle is not a traditional conference, but rather a learning experience that will offer end-to-end examples of how strategic collaboration, continuous learning and adaptive management are supported from policy guidance, through strategy and design, to implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and adaptive management.
This year's event featured:
- The Lifecycle of a Program through the Practice of CLA: From Program Cycle Policy to Results
- Keynote Panel on Adaptive Management - featuring Duncan Green (Oxfam), Jon Kurtz (Mercy Corps), Alicia Dinerstein (USAID) and Melissa Patsalides (USAID)
- Breakout Sessions featuring the 2016 CLA Case Competition Winners and on Applying Examples of CLA to your Work

What did you like about Moving the Needle 2016?
(Positive feedback from the post-event survey)
"Getting USAID and implementing partners in the same room to discuss mutual management/implementation issues related to CLA."
"Very thoughtfully put together, wtih an opportunity to interact with implementing partners, listen to experts from various organizations, practical solutions and real examples of different assortment of CLA work."
"Very informal and comfortable environment. I felt able to speak freely, though mostly because the tension appeared to be shared between the PPL and CLA and implementing staff, and their main point of concern was the missions in the field and local hires who run these projects."
"I liked the considerable amount of listening done by all the USAID staff that were in attendance. I also appreciated having contracts people and OAA present."
"It felt very much like a challenge we are trying to address together (USAID and IPs)."
"Seeing how far CLA and adaptive management has come in USAID. Also it seems that the CLA team is working on issues similar as in my NGO and how to incorporate the practice in my agency."
