Event Description

Note : Cet événement se déroulera en anglais avec interprétation simultanée en français.

Join us for a rich panel discussion on the use of experimental and quasi-experimental designs for Resilience Food Security Activity (RFSA) impact evaluations. The USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance will discuss the intended value of impact evaluations for informing refinements in RFSA design, and we'll learn from IMPEL researchers and RFSA implementing partners about how they've encountered and overcome certain challenges in starting impact evaluations during the RFSA inception phase.

Our panelists will include IMPEL researcher partners (Causal Design, Innovations for Poverty Action, International Food Policy Research Institute) and BHA Implementing Partners currently implementing RFSAs selected for IMPEL-led impact evaluations (CARE, CRS, ADRA, CNFA, WVI). They will share their recent experiences tailoring research design to reflect each RFSA's unique operating environment and outline adjustments that enable robust evaluations. Among other topics, panelists will share what they've learned while refining pre-analysis plans, data collection tools, and sampling strategies amid critical stages of RFSA start-up. Panelists will also share how they've balanced the collection of information on required standard indicators and those with more concrete implications for adaptive management of RFSA activities.

The panel will be moderated by Arif Rashid, Acting Division Chief- Design, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Applied Learning (DMEAL) Division, BHA.

Panelists will include:

  • Adam Trowbridge, Senior Monitoring & Evaluation Advisor, BHA
  • Reimar Macaranas, Co-Founder and Director of Economics, Causal Design
  • Lasse Brune, Economist, Consultant
  • Dan Gilligan, Deputy Division Director, Poverty Health and Nutrition Division, IFPRI
  • Participating RFSA Implementing Partners
