What are you supposed to DO with your Theory of Change (ToC) after it has been developed? How should you use your ToC throughout the project cycle? How can you validate your ToC and demonstrate your projects’ impact within the ToC’s context, annually and at project closeout? These are a few of the questions that will be answered during the Theory of Change Adaptive Learning and Validation Conference and Workshop. 

At the TALV conference international development professionals will come together to learn and share methodologies and best practices for using the Theory of Change (ToC) for continuous, program cycle learning and improvement. The conference itself focuses on the role of program managers, donors and technical experts play and the tools they can use to facilitate the implementation of ToC validation. The conference will give participants an opportunity to learn from the successes and challenges other development actors have faced using the Theory of Change for learning. Participants will come away with advanced skills and ideas for implementing a Theory of Change validation approach to enhance their own projects’ impact and efficacy.

The TALV workshop will be a four-day workshop geared toward monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) development project implementers who want to acquire hard skills for performing Theory of Change validation. Technical experts will present on various TALV techniques and will mentor participants through applied exercises that utilize real-world data and software platforms. Workshop topics include efficient use of resources via secondary data and sampling methodologies, outcome mapping, most significant change analysis, qualitative data collection and analysis, social network analysis, spatial analysis and modeling. We look forward to providing an interactive, action-oriented learning experience for all participants.
